Job description

The Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology of Erasmus MC seeks a motivated assistant professor to establish a new research line in the intersection of statistics, causal inference, and machine learning. The scope of the new research line is broad and should complement the existing research lines within the department.

This position primarily focuses on research, but is also expected to be involved in the department's teaching and consulting activities.

Work environment

The department of Biostatistics of Erasmus MC is well known for producing innovative statistical and machine-learning methods to answer clinical, epidemiological, and public health research questions. The members of the department lead research lines in joint models for longitudinal and time-to-event data, (dynamic) prediction models, clinical trial methodology, models for rare diseases, growth curve models, and Bayesian techniques.

Qualifications and skills

  • PhD degree in Statistics, Computer science, or a related discipline.
  • Ability to work as an independent researcher.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Experience in collaborative projects with clinical researchers is considered a plus.
  • Good social and communication skills and willingness to work with other team members.

Terms of employment

  • You will receive a temporary position for 3 years. The gross monthly salary amounts a maximum of € 7.232,- (scale 12), depending on your level of education and relevant experience, based on a full-time working week of 36 hours. Possibility for a permanent employment contract after three years.
  • Excellent fringe benefits, such as a 13th month that is already paid out in November and a individual travel expense package.
  • An International Office which aids you in preparing for you arrival and stay.
  • Pension insurance with ABP. We take care of approximately 2/3 of the monthly contribution.
  • Special benefits, such as a incompany physiotherapist and bicycle repairer. And there is also a gym where you can work on your fitness after work.
