Job description

Gendered language often excludes or marginalizes the experiences of transgender, gender-diverse, and intersex individuals. By using gender-neutral and inclusive language in medical texts and questionnaires, we can engage all cancer patients, regardless of their gender identity or intersex status.

In this project, you will investigate how to make the EORTC Quality of Life Group Measures more inclusive and applicable for all cancer patients by developing and testing strategies for gender-neutral or inclusive language.

Your tasks will include:

  • Conducting a scoping review.
  • Conducting and analyzing interviews.
  • Conducting a modified Delphi study.
  • Writing scientific papers.
  • Presenting at scientific conferences.

Work environment

The research will be conducted at the EORTC quality of life group as well as at the Healthcare Quality and Sustainbility pillar, which is part of the department of Public Health of the Erasmus MC.

At the department of Public Health, we are dedicated to improve population health at local, national, and international level through excellent research and education. Our research is characterised as highly multidisciplinary and is focused on the development and use of innovative methods. Collaboration with and direct impact on practice and policy are at the heart of our work.

Within this project, you will collaborate with international EORTC quality of life group partners, LGBTQIA+ and cancer organizations and a patient panel.

Qualifications and skills

  • Your profile aligns with the general requirements and eligibility criteria of the RESPECT project.
  • You should be an independent and highly motivated researcher with an MSc in Medicine, Psychology, Epidemiology, or a related field.
  • Experience with qualitative research is highly valued.
  • You should be able to communicate with international researchers and study participants. Excellent proficiency in English is required. Having proficiency in other languages is beneficial.

Terms of employment

  • You will recieve a temporary position for 34 months. The gross montly salary is €3017,- in the 1ste year and increases to €3655,- in the 3th year (scale OIO).
  • Excellent fringe benefits, such as a 13th month that is already paid out in November and a individual travel expense package.
  • An International Office which aids you in preparing for you arrival and stay.
  • Pension insurance with ABP. We take care of approximately 2/3 of the monthly contribution.
  • Special benefits, such as a incompany physiotherapist and bicycle repairer. And there is also a gym where you can work on your fitness after work.
