(Senior) Postdoc / Project manager in (cancer cell/single cell) biology

Job description

The Chien lab is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated (senior) postdoc/project manager to join our collaborative, interdisciplinary environment. If you have a “can-do” attitude, a goal-oriented mindset, and a passion for (scientific) challenges, you are the right person for us!

We are seeking a postdoc/project manager with an in-depth understanding of cancer biology, cell biology, or immunology, as well as expertise in generating hypotheses on molecular mechanisms derived from omics data.

Our lab develops technologies that integrate advanced imaging, computational analysis, and single-cell & spatial omics sequencing methods to address key biological questions, particularly in cancer research. Our focus is on investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying rare and aggressive cancer cell subpopulations, as well as (plastic) cancer cell states that contribute to tumor progression, metastasis, and therapy resistance.

The role has multiple responsibilities:

• ~30% of the time will be dedicated to overseeing multiple (PhD) projects and providing biological insights or hypotheses to drive research progress and completion.
• ~50% will involve performing experiments or analyses.
• ~20% will be allocated to writing grant proposals and manuscripts.

The successful candidate will also be part of Oncode Institute, with which dr. Chien is affiliated.

The department of Molecular Genetics consists of 13 research groups dedicated to investigating the fundamental mechanistic aspects of tumorigenesis, including the DNA damage response, at molecular, cellular, and physiological levels through multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research. In collaboration with clinical colleagues at Erasmus MC, the department leverages its findings to develop novel targeted therapies aimed at improving cancer patients' quality of life and promoting a healthy lifespan in an aging population.

Qualifications and skills

• The successful candidate must have a PhD in a relevant discipline (e.g., Cancer Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology, Single-cell Biology, Bioengineering, or Computational Biology) with a publication record reflecting individual accomplishments.
• Experience with omics data interpretation is a plus!
• A strong command of scientific English, both spoken and written, is essential.
• A can-do attitude, a solution-focused approach, and a goal-oriented mindset are highly valued.

Terms of employment

• You will receive a temporary position for one year, with the possibility to extend up to 5 years.
• The gross monthly salary amounts a minimum of € 3.493,- and a maximum of € 5.504,- (scale 10).
