Epidemiologist for Real World Data Studies

Job description

The department of Medical Informatics (Erasmus MC) has a vacancy for 4 epidemiologists to coordinate observational research making use of international, large real world data sources mapped to the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership (OMOP) Common Data Model (CDM). As epidemiologist you will be responsible for the coordination of observational studies as part of the Data Analysis and Real World Interrogation Network (DARWIN EU®) initiative. DARWIN EU® is an initiative by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) with as aim to generate evidence to support regulatory decision making in Europe. The department of Medical Informatics is currently representing the Coordination Centre for the DARWIN EU® initiative. 

In your function as epidemiologist, you will lead the analysis of OMOP-mapped real world health data following pre-specified protocols and/or using existing analytical pipelines. You will be responsible for all aspects of observational research including study outline and protocol writing, parametrization of study code, study execution, interpretation of results and report/manuscript writing. You are willing to travel to participate in project meetings and present the study results at international conferences. We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic epidemiologist who wants to make a difference in the continuous search for safe and effective medicines.

Research as done within our department is performed in close collaboration with the Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) initiative, which is a global, multi-stakeholder, interdisciplinary collaborative to bring out the value of health data through large-scale analytics, and the EU-sponsored European Health Data and Evidence Network (EHDEN) which develop frameworks to generate reliable real-world evidence. The department of Medical Informatics is currently representing the Coordination Centre for the DARWIN EU® initiative of the EMA. 

Qualifications and skills

• PhD in Epidemiology or Public Health.
• Background in Medicine, Pharmacy or Biomedical Sciences is an asset.
• Post-graduate work experience in real-world evidence.
• Experience in the design and execution of epidemiological studies utilizing large-scale healthcare databases.
• Good analytical and organizational skills.
• Good time management.
• Experience to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
• Appreciates to work adhering to standard operating procedures.
• Fluent in English.
• Excellent writing skills with track record of peer reviewed publications.

Terms of employment

• You will receive a contract for one year with the prospect of further extension.
• The gross monthly salary amounts a minimum of € 4.678,- and a maximum of € 6.402,- depending on your level of education and relevant experience, based on a full-time working week of 36 hours.
